Mangaluru: Barke police have arrested two men in connection with the possession and supply of narcotic substances and seized 174 grams of opium along with other valuables from them.

The arrested have been identified as Vasudeva alias San (48), originally from Jalore district of Rajasthan and currently residing in a rented house at Bhagavati Nagar, and Mangal Chaudhary (45), a native of Rajasthan living near Kudroli.

Acting on reliable information, Barke police sub-inspector Vinayak Thoragal and his team apprehended Vasudeva on Wednesday afternoon near the Gujarati School behind Bhagavati Nagar, Kodyalbail. During the search, opium marked in Rajasthani language as “Kalakadd” was found concealed inside the petrol tank cover of his two-wheeler. Upon questioning, Vasudeva revealed that he had purchased the narcotic from Mangal Chaudhary.

From Vasudeva, police recovered 174 grams of liquid opium valued at Rs 9,000, a mobile phone worth Rs 40,000, and a two-wheeler worth Rs 50,000. The total seized property is valued at Rs 99,000.

A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Both accused were produced before the court, which has remanded them to judicial custody, police said.

New Delhi (PTI): Bill Gates will not deliver keynote address at the India AI Impact Summit, Gates Foundation said on Thursday.

In a post on X, Gates Foundation said, "The Gates Foundation will be represented by Ankur Vora, President of Africa and India Offices, who will speak later today at the Summit".

The post said: "After careful consideration, and to ensure the focus remains on the AI Summit's key priorities, Mr. Gates will not be delivering his keynote address."

The Gates Foundation further said it remains fully committed to its work in India to advance shared health and development goals.
