Udupi: A fisherman from Andhra Pradesh, identified as Pukalu Kameya, was rescued alive after he accidentally fell off a boat and stayed afloat for 14 hours in Malpe, Udupi.
According to reports, Kameya fell off the boat while returning with a 35-member fishermen team after their fishing activity. The other fishermen realized that he was missing only after traveling some distance and began to search for him but to no avail.
The matter was later reported to the Coast Guard, and a search operation was launched. Kameya swam for a brief duration and found a fishing net that was laid to catch fish. He used the flag post put up in the net as support to remain afloat and standing until he was rescued.
The net was laid on April 17 at 6 pm, and when the fishermen returned to the spot at 3 am, they found Kameya standing with the support of the flag post. He was then pulled out from the water and rescued.
Kameya was admitted to the Ajjarkad district hospital by Eshwar Malpe due to some health issues he faced but has since recovered and been discharged from the hospital. This incident highlights the importance of proper safety measures and precautions while engaging in fishing activities.
