Udupi: Min Lakshmi Hebbalkar honours SSLC, PUC achievers from backward classes on Independence Day
Udupi: The 79th Independence Day was celebrated at the Mahatma Gandhi Stadium in Ajjarakadu on Friday, with District In-charge Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar hoisting the national flag and receiving the guard of honour.
The Minister, who addressed the gathering, including school children, on the occasion, honoured SSLC and PUC achievers from backward classes.
Udupi legislator Yashpal Suvarna, Udupi Urban Development Authority Chairperson Dinakar Heroor, District Guarantee Project Implementation Committee President Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, Deputy Commissioner Swaroopa TK, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Pratheek Bayal, Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar and Additional Deputy Commissioner Abhid Gadyala were present, among others.

Minor girl kidnapped and raped; main accused and two cafe owners held
Latur (PTI): A minor girl was allegedly kidnapped and raped by an 18-year-old man in Latur, leading to the arrest of the main accused and owners of two cafes where the crime occurred on December 4, police said on Saturday.
Police traced the girl within hours of registering the complaint. The accused, identified as Rihan Gulab Shaikh, was arrested based on the girl's complaint. Two others are owners of two cafes where the crime occurred, police said.
Police registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), POCSO Act, and the Prevention of Atrocities Act, an official said.
