Udupi: BJP MLA Raghupathi Bhat on Saturday expressed his reservations against the merging of the Surathkal tollgate with the Hejamady tollgate and added that it was unfair on the people of Udupi district.
Speaking at a press conference, the BJP MLA from the Udupi constituency stated that the Surathkal tollgate has no connection with the Hejamady tollgate and collection of Surathkal toll fee at Hejamady was wrong.
“Surathkal tollgate is run by Navayuga company that has nothing to do with the company that runs Hejamady tollgate. Navayuga is the same company that runs Bantwal tollgate. People of the Udupi district will be inconvenienced by the collection of Surathkal toll fees at the Hejamdy tollgate” he added.
“I have written to the Centre, and the Chief Minister of the state to withdraw the notification of the merger.” He said.
When asked if he would participate in the protests that are planned near the Hejamady tollgate regarding the merger, the MLA said it would depend on who is organising it and their motive.
