Uppinangady: Uppinangady Police on Tuesday arrested five people in connection with abduction and rape of a minor girl and booked them under POCSO Act here in Uppinangady. The Police is now looking for the sixth accused in the case who is absconding.
The arrested accused have been identified as Chandraksh (25), Sandeep Kumar (23) of Uruwalu village, Harshendra (24) of Kaniyuru village, Love Kumar (27) of Kaniyuru, and Laxmish Charan (24) of Shishil village.
Chandraksh has been charged for abducting the girl and under sections of POCSO Act while the other four have been charged under POCSO Act. Another accused Mithun is reportedly absconding and the police has launched manhunt for him.
On June 17, family of a minor girl had lodged a missing complaint at Uppinangady Police Station. The girl was later traced by Hassan Police while she was on her way to Bengaluru.
She was accompanied by Chandraksha who allegedly raped her and arranged her to stay at his aunt’s house in Bengaluru. It was later reported that the girl was raped by six men. Investigating the matter the police on Tuesday arrested five and booked them under POCSO Act.
Police added that the girl was sent to Counselling Centre and the five accused will be produced in the court, while another arrest is yet to be made.

Gangtok (PTI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched development projects worth over Rs 4,000 crore in Sikkim while attending the closing ceremony of the state's 50 years of statehood celebrations.
The projects span a wide range of sectors such as infrastructure, connectivity, healthcare, education, power, urban development, environment, tourism and agriculture, the officials said.
These projects are aimed at accelerating holistic and inclusive development in Sikkim.
The PM's visit marks an important milestone in the golden jubilee year of Sikkim's statehood and reflects the government's "continued commitment to the rapid and sustainable development of the Himalayan state", the officials said.
