Karwar: The transfer of Uttara Kannada SP Shiva Prakash Devaraju, has made way for Dr. Suman D Pennekar, to become the first-ever Superintendent of the Uttara Kannada District. Dr. Suman took charge as the SP of the district on Sunday and has assumed office.
An IPS officer from the 2013 batch of Karnataka Cadre, Dr, Suman's previous posting was at Karnataka Police Academy as the Deputy Director. She has also served as the SP of the Kodagu district.
Speaking to Vartha Bharati, on her priorities as the chief of district police, Suman said she was understanding the district as this was her first posting in the region and said she wants to control the crime rate in the district.
"I am trying to understand the district. The focus will definitely be on controlling the crime and maintaining peace here. I will personally go through the crime files and will chalk out a plan to bring down the number of crimes," Suman told Vartha Bharati over a phone call.
Shiva Prakash Devaraju has been transferred as the Superintendent of Police of the Gadag district.

Srinagar (PTI): Property worth Rs 1 crore belonging to a notorious drug peddler was on Saturday attached in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar, police said.
A double-storey house on eight marlas of land situated at Wantpora Eidgah, belonging to Basit Bilal Dar, a notorious drug peddler, valued at approximately Rs 1 crore, a police spokesperson said.
He said Dar is involved in two cases registered under various sections of the NDPS Act.
During investigation, it was established that the accused had acquired the said property through illicit proceeds generated from drug trafficking activities, the spokesperson said.
Consequently, the property was attached under the provisions of the NDPS Act. The attachment proceedings were conducted in the presence of the two independent witnesses, strictly in accordance with the prescribed legal procedures, he said.
As per the attachment order, the owner has been restrained from selling, leasing, transferring, altering, or creating any third-party interest in the property till further orders, the spokesperson added.
