Bantwala, September 21: Vittla police on Friday arrested a leader of Kasaragod Hindu Aikya Vedike on charges of insulting the Islam religion and making provocative speech.
The arrested is identified as Kasaragod BJP leader Ravish Tantri follower and Kasaragod Hindu Aikya Vedike district convener Manjunath Udupa (32).
He was absconding after the incident. When he appeared in the police station after getting bail on September 19, the police arrested him. He was booked under Goonda Act, sources said.
In a programme organized as part of the Sri Krishna Janmashtami at Kadambu village in Vittla police station limits on September 9, Manjunath Udupa alias Pushparanga Bhat insulted the people of other religion and made a provocative speech. Moreover, the organizers had used loudspeakers without getting permission. Now, Kadambu Juma Masjid management committee lodged a complaint against Manjunath Udupa, programme coordinator Chethan Pedimale, Bhaskar Tailor, Suresh Kottari, Varadaraj Kottari, B.K. Krishnappa Salian and Ramesh Poojary and a case was registered at Vittla police station.
After the programme, all the accused were absconding. Except Manjunath Udupa and B.K. Krishnappa Salian, all others have got bail and surrendered at the police station on September 11, police said.
Kidnap case registered at Adur police station
After the complaint, the police have searched for Manjunath Udupa at Mulleriya, Gadigudde, Kuntaru places in Adur police station limits. He had worked as the supervisor Kaniyoor mutt Gadigudde branch and he is the close aide of Kasaragod BJP leader Ravisha Tantri. He has been facing a kidnap case at Adur police station.
He is basically from Shettikere Gate CN Halli in Tumkur district and currently, working as the Vedike district secretary, said SP Ravikanthe Gowda.

Brahmavar: Police have arrested four persons in connection with the murder of a 30-year-old man following a quarrel after a drinking party at Kotathattu Padukere in Brahmavar taluk.
The deceased has been identified as Santhosh Mogaveera, a resident of Padukere. The arrested accused are Darshan (21) of Parampalli Padukere, Kaushik (21) of Neeradi Jeddu, Sasthan Pandeshwar, and Ankit (19) and Sujan (21), both residents of Kotathattu Padukere. All four have been produced before the court.
According to the police, the incident occurred on the evening of December 14. Santhosh, along with Sachin, Chethan, Kaushik, Sujan and Darshan, had gone to a bar and later came to the Padukere Circle, where they had food and were conversing. During this time, an argument broke out between the groups over issues related to Santhosh’s family and alcohol consumption. The verbal altercation escalated, with the accused allegedly abusing Santhosh and assaulting him together.

It is alleged that during the scuffle, Darshan struck Santhosh forcefully on the back of his neck with his hand, while Kaushik also assaulted him. Though others attempted to intervene and stop the fight, Santhosh collapsed at the spot.
He was later rushed to a private hospital in Brahmavar, where doctors declared him brought dead. A case has been registered at Kota Police Station in this regard.
Brahmavar Circle Inspector Gopikrishna, Kota Sub-Inspector Praveen Kumar T and Station SI Mantesh Jabha Gowda visited the spot and conducted an inspection. Further investigation is underway.
