Kasaragod, Dec 20: A woman hailed from Hubballi was found dead at a house at Vidya Nagar Chala on the outskirts of the city on Thursday.

The woman was identified as Sarasu(30) of Hubballi. But another person Chandra (35) who was living with the woman is absconding.

Since last few years, both of them were living together at a rented house. Chandra was working in Kasaragod. But on Tuesday, Chandra had informed the building owner that he would go to his native place and return after two days and handed over the key to him. When he did not return even after two days, the house owner tried to call him, but his phone was switched off. But when the owner opened the room door of Chandra, he found the body of Sarasu.

The police who visited the spot collected the information. Forensic experts, sniffer dogs and senior police officers visited the spot and collected details. The body was taken to Pariyaram Medical College for post mortem. Now the police have been searching for Chandra who is at large.

Kolkata (PTI): A 68-year-old man was arrested from Kolkata on Thursday morning after fake Indian currency notes (FICN) with a face value of Rs 2.99 lakh were seized from his possession, police said.

Acting on a tip-off, the Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police apprehended the person from the Dharmatala bus stand area in the central part of the city, he said.

“Six bundles of FICN of Rs 500 denomination were seized from his possession. The person seems to be a member of a racket involved in fake currency note supply. A case has been filed against him and he will be produced in a local court later today,” he said.

The accused is a resident of Malda district, the officer said, adding that a probe into the matter is underway.
