Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada Youth Congress President Luqman Bantwal on Wednesday said that people in this country can either be pro-Constitution or anti-Constitution, and there is no in-between.
Speaking at an event organized during the visit of Mohammed Haris Nalapad in Mangaluru, Luqman said the silence of the people from the majority community is not right for the society and that they should speak up when the minority communities are being oppressed.
"Our silence hurts this country more than the hate-mongering words of RSS and fascist forces," he said.
“When there is injustice happening to Muslims in this country, your silence is a curse to the society. We should break the silence and fight the fascist forces. There is no grey area in current politics, either you are pro-Constitution or you are anti-Constitution, there is no in-between” he said.
He further added that the country is under crisis and a virtual fight is being fought between those who believe in Gandhi and those who follow Godse.
“We are Gandhians. We are the followers of Dr. Baba Ambedkar. We believe in the Constitution of this country. Our party has a history of 130 years. We gave independence to this country. And today we are fighting the anti-Constitution ideology,” he said during his speech.
“Our forefathers (Congressmen) gave independence to this country by struggling for it and laying down their lives for it. Today, we all should pledge that we will not let anyone compromise with our freedom and Constitution, that was given by our forefathers,” he added.
“Indian Muslims are more patriots than any of the BJP or RSS members. BJP and RSS members did not make any sacrifice during the freedom struggle, it was Muslims, Dalit, and people from Backward Classes who worked tirelessly for India’s freedom struggle under the Congress supervision,” he added while speaking about the boycotts Muslims are being subjected to by right-wing organisations.
“As the President of District Youth Congress, I want all of you to pledge that we will not hesitate to lay down our life, sacrifice everything to save this country, to save this country’s Constitution.” He added.

Pilibhit (PTI): A 19-day-old elephant calf, brought from Bijnor, was placed under care at the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve (PTR) on Sunday, an official said and added that the calf got separated from its mother in the forest area of Bijnor.
The calf was born on December 2 in the Bijnor forest area and got separated from its mother shortly after birth, the official said.
The forest department made several attempts to reunite it with its mother, but without any success. To ensure the calf's safety and better care, it was decided to transfer it to the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve on the instructions of senior officials.
On Saturday, Deputy Director Manish Singh received the calf. Special arrangements have been made in the reserve for its care. It has been kept in a safe and clean environment to provide it with a natural setting and protect it from external noise and disturbances.
Singh told reporters that raising an 19-day-old calf is challenging.
It requires a special diet as a substitute for mother's milk and constant monitoring.
He said a special team has been formed to provide 24-hour care. Since the calf is very young, it is being cared for like a newborn baby.
According to Singh, the primary responsibility for monitoring the calf's health has been entrusted to PTR's veterinarian, Dr Daksh Gangwar. Under his supervision, a complete record of the calf's health checkups, diet, and body temperature is being maintained. The team is ensuring that the calf does not contract any infection.
