Mangaluru, May 21: Mangaluru Commissioner Vipul Kumar said that those who forward insulting messages in the social media even ‘unknowingly’ would attract punishment.
After receiving a memorandum against fabricating the video of celebration of Congress workers and posted it in the social media, the Commissioner told media persons here on Monday that such anti-social elements who have been involving in those activities were already warned through media. If they continued the same activity, they would attract punishment, he added.
A fake video said to be shouted in favor of Pakistan has gone viral in the social media. Against this incident, police have thought of booking a case voluntarily. But based on a complaint by a person called Samarth, a case was booked in Kadri police station. After thorough investigation, action would be taken against the culprits, he said.
When the people come across any kind of insulting messages on castes, party, religion and others, need to inform the police. Even if someone forwarded any kind of such insulting messages 'unknowingly', it would also be a crime and even if they claim that they have forwarded the message unknowingly, they could not avoid the legal action, he warned.
Mangaluru people are known for their maturity. So, they should keep away from such disputes and they should also cooperate with the police in investigating such cases, he added.
Investigation begins
Commissioner Vipul Kumar said that the police department has already started investigation into those who provoke the communal feelings and spread false propaganda in social media.

ISLAMABAD: At least two more cases of poliovirus were reported in Pakistan, taking the number of infections to 52 so far this year, a report said on Friday.
“The Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at the National Institute of Health has confirmed the detection of two more wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1) cases in Pakistan," an official statement said.
The fresh infections — a boy and a girl — were reported from the Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.
“Genetic sequencing of the samples collected from the children is underway," the statement read. Dera Ismail Khan, one of the seven polio-endemic districts of southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, has reported five polio cases so far this year.
Of the 52 cases in the country this year, 24 are from Balochistan, 13 from Sindh, 13 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and one each from Punjab and Islamabad.
There is no cure for polio. Only multiple doses of the oral polio vaccine and completion of the routine vaccination schedule for all children under the age of five can keep them protected.
