Mangaluru: General Secretary of Youth Congress Ullal unit Mohammed Shameer has resigned from his post, expressing disappointment regarding the failure of the Congress government in the state to suppress communalism in the coastal belt.
In a press release, Shameer has said that the Congress is in power in the state for two years, but has taken no effective step to rein in the communalists. He cited the murder of Abdul Rahman in Kolthamajalu in Bantwal taluk on Tuesday, saying such cases of communal violence continue in coastal Karnataka. The incidents are also the outcome of the Congress government’s negligence and lethargy, he alleged.
Accusing Home Minister Dr. G Parameshwara of failing to fulfill his duties at maintaining peace and order in the region, he said that this has provided freedom to the members of the Sangh Parivar to continue their violent activities. District In-charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao’s negligent attitude in the matter has given rise to dissatisfaction among citizens, who are all the more worried as the Police Department is not being controlled by the state government, Shameer has said in the press release.
He expressed further dissatisfaction that members of Sangh Parivar, like Sharan Pumpwell and Srikanth Shetty, are not only being let free by the legal forces but also being granted bail at the drop of a hat. Shameer said that people were losing faith in the judicial system because of such incidents. The inadequacies in the governance of the Congress government were being revealed by such incidents, he added.
Stating that he was unable to accept the ideology of the current Congress government for the above reasons, Shameer said in the press release that he was resigning from his post of General Secretary.
