Bengaluru: According to a timesofindia.com report, public bus passengers in the city are facing severe inconvenience as 2,400 BMTC buses and 2,100 KSRTC buses had been reserved to transport BJP activists to the event venue, in the wake of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bengaluru.

Apart from this, in the background of Modi’s visit near the Bengaluru city railway station, the KSRTC and BMTC bus operations at the Kempegowda Majestic Terminus were stalled for two hours. The buses coming from outside were stopped at Goraguntepaalya on the Tumakuru road, it is learned.

As no prior information was provided regarding the unavailability of buses, countless passengers faced hardship and inconvenience. “A notification had come from the Uppaarapete traffic police station, informing about the halting of bus operation at the Kempegowda bus station. Some buses were thus made to stop at nearby bus stands. This action was taken to ensure that the VIPs would experience smooth travel”, a BMTC official has revealed.

As per the timeofinidia.com report, there are a total of 6,800 buses with the BMTC. Due to a shortage of drivers, only 5,660 buses are in operation while 2,400 buses were provided for the chartered services.

These steps have been taken predicting that there would fewer passengers, because of the holiday on Kanakadasa Jayanti and in the background of PM Modi’s visit, the official clarified.
