Kalaburagi: Excise Minister RB Timmapur has said that the state government is taking stringent measures to stop illegal sale of liquor in the district, with 652 cases having been registered and 122 people being arrested in the last three years.
The minister, who recently gave a written reply to a question on the issue by MLA Allamaprabhu Patil in House, clarified that the government had found no proof of college students and rural people being the most affected by such illegal sale of liquor. He, however, admitted that the sale was rampant and that the government found it necessary to take strict action to control the problem.
Referring to the steps taken by the government, Timmapur said that 85 people had been arrested in the 330 cases registered in 2022-23 and 37 had been arrested in the 280 cases of 2023-24. In 2025, 47 cases are registered but no arrests have been made, the minister added.
