Bengaluru, Dec 19: The Light Utility Helicopter (LUH), built by the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has reached another milestone in its success stories.

In the beginning of December, Indigenously designed Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) successfully completed its 6-km altitude flight. Now, the third prototype (PT3) of the LUH again recorded its maiden flight here on Wednesday.  Test pilot retired Wing Commander Anil Bhambhani and retired Group Captain M.R Anand flew the chopper successfully.

Due to the successful PT3 testing, the HAL would shortly get green signal for manufacturing choppers for the army, said HAL CMD R Madhavan.

Third PT3 testing was a landmark achievement. Now the LUH would fill the places of Cheetah and Chetak choppers, presently being used in the IAF, said Engineering Research and Development Wing director Aroop Chatterjee.

Working order

HAL Rotary Wing Research and Development Centre has designed and developed 3-tonne new generation LUH helicopter. On September 6, 2016, the first prototype of LUH successfully flew. On May 22, 2017, the second prototype was tested. In January, the LUH would be subjected to High Altitude Cold Weather test. Now, the Indian Army and Air Force have given working order to the HAL for manufacturing 126 and 61 LUH respectively.
