Belagavi: City police has formed anti-stabbing squads to check bags of youngsters, including students, and vehicles of suspects, after an incident of a student being stabbed by two minors following a fight for a window seat in a city bus came to light last week.

People, including minors, have been found carrying knives, swords and other weapons in their pockets and vehicles, giving rise to worry. There is also a rise in incidents like anti-social elements displaying swords at public places, reports Deccan Herald, citing the instance of a person being arrested in the city for displaying a sword near the railway tracks at Gandhi Nagar in order to instill fear among people.

City Police Commissioner Bhushan Borase has said that each anti-stabbing squad team will have five to six personnel who will check the bags and vehicles of suspects. He added that in case of a weapon being found, the person will be booked under the provisions of the Arms Act.

A rowdy sheet will also be opened against him/her and the person will have to report to the police stations during all festivals, he warned.

Medininagar/Godda (PTI): Six people, including four members of a family, were arrested with 17.50 kg ganja from two districts of Jharkhand, police said on Tuesday.

In Palamu, four people, including three women, were apprehended with 8.6 kg ganja, they said.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team made the arrests from a house in Madhushala Colony on Monday, an officer said.

The estimated market value of the seized ganja is around Rs 6 lakh, SP Reeshma Ramesan said.

In Jharkhand’s Godda district, two persons were arrested with a total of 8.94 kg ganja worth around Rs 6.10 lakh from Amjora village under Mahagama police station limits following a raid, SDPO Chandrasekhar Azad said.
