Bengaluru, October 01: Minority Welfare, Hajj and Waqf and Food and Civil Supplies Minister B.Z Zameer Ahmed Khan said that the state government has reintroduced online filing of applications for fresh ration cards.
Speaking to reporters here on Monday, the Minister said that following election code of conduct, the disposal of pending ration cards was not possible. Now, more than 8.27 lakh applications were cleared and ration cards were distributed to all beneficiaries. Earlier, all members of a family had to submit their individual income certificate to get the BPL card. But now, it was reduced to the head of the family. Now, the applications have been invited from the beneficiaries through online, he said.
Umrah pilgrimage to volunteers
Hajj camp was being conducted in Bengaluru for the last 22 years and it was not the government or the ministers for the success of the camp. Instead, the volunteers and their efforts were responsible for the success. Volunteers were not rich and they were earning just Rs 15,000-20,000 per month. Sacrificing their one month salary, they serve the Hajj pilgrims. Even the volunteers also want to have Hajj pilgrimage once in their lifetime. But they could not afford over Rs 80,000. Out of 650 such volunteers, 300 men were selected through lottery and remaining 350 would be sent next year, he said.
Total 15 youth from Chamarajpet had spent 20 days in Hajj camp in the food section and 15 from Haveri served the pilgrims for 15 days. They were also being sent to Umrah pilgrimage. Among them, one physically disabled person was also there and he was given a two-wheeler today. A team of 11 youth had rescued more than 100 people in the natural disaster at Madikeri and they were also being sent to the pilgrimage. Along with them, volunteers, police officers, Hajj Committee officers and staff were honoured for their service, he said.
In the Airport Hajj Terminal, more than 180 officials of Airport, Emigration, Customs, Airport Security officers and others were also felicitated. Among them, Muslim officers would be sent to Umrah, while other religion officers would be sent to the pilgrim centres of their choice along with their family members, he added.
