Udupi: Assistant Public Prosecutor Ganapathi Vasanth Nayak was arrested by Lokayukta Police on Wednesday under charge of receiving a bribe of Rs 3,000 for filing of an objection.

The complainant had approached the Udupi Lokayukta Police after Nayak demanded Rs 3,000 to file an objection over a case related to the release of a sand transport vehicle. The police officers, who raided the office of Nayak at the Udupi District Court on Wednesday, caught him red-handed while receiving the amount and held him.

The Lokayukta Police conducted the probe under the direction of Lokayukta Police Superintendent In-charge for Dakshina Kannada Kumarachandra. The team included Udupi Stand-in Deputy SP Manjunath, Inspector Rajendra Nayak MN, Assistant Sub-inspector Nagesh and personnel Nagaraj, Satish Handadi, Rohith, Mallika, Pushpavathi, Ravindra, Ramesh, Abdul Jalal, Prasanna, Raghavendra Hoskote, Sudheer and Satish Acharya.

Chamarajnagar: A wild elephant was seen near the Indibasappa Temple on Palar Road on Male Mahadeshwara Hills in Hanur taluk struggling to drink water from a tank as it sustained injuries on its trunk.

A video clip of the elephant trying to drink water from the tank situated near the temple has gone viral on social media.

On learning of the situation of the elephant, many locals expressed sympathy and also shared it widely on various platforms.

The matter was also brought to the notice of the Forest Department officials, with netizens urging the officers to urgently provide medical aid to the wild elephant.
