Bengaluru, Dec 6: In yet another successful treatment of an international patient, the doctors at Aster CMI hospital treated an overweight 51-year-old Sudanese woman by conducting bariatric surgery and helping her walk like normal people.
Dr. H V Shivaram, Chief of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery along with multidisciplinary team performed surgery on the patient weighing 207 kgs.
Patient Sadia Mohammed has initially gone to Germany for weight loss surgery, but the treatment there was not successful. Later, she approached the Aster CMI Hospital of Bengaluru in last October and her BMI was 72 against normal BMI of 24, with massive lower limb swelling, skin ulcerations and could not move easily. She also had respiratory problem.
After evaluating her condition at the Aster CMI Hospital, the multidisciplinary team of the hospital has decided to conduct Revision Bariatric surgery (Laparoscopic mini gastric bypass) on her.
Dr. H V Shivaram said that “We have decided on this type of gastric bypass since it gives excellent long-term weight loss with normal diet, and chances of weight regain is very less. After adequate optimization, she underwent the key-hole bariatric surgery at the hospital. After discussing with her family members and taking their approval, we took a decision to do two procedures – revision sleeve gastrectomy and Mini Gastric Bypass. Both the procedures were successful”, he added.
Dr. Arun, chief of Anesthesia and Pain Management at Aster CMI Hospital said, “We took a conscious decision to defer her surgery for two weeks so that we could prepare her respiratory system by continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) ventilator, which helped us give her anesthesia successfully.”
While patient Sadia Mohammed said that “I am very happy with the surgery, medical team and the hospital. I had an uneventful recovery, there was no pain and I was asked to walk by evening. I was discharged on the 4th day after surgery.” She particularly praised the state of the art Bariatric Suits at Aster CMI Hospital which has all the facilities for caring a morbidly obese patient.
Kamil, brother of Sadia who accompanied her to India, was a cabinet minister in Republic of Sudan. He too appreciated the Indian healthcare system, hospitals and doctors. “Where else in the world can you get such affordable treatment by the best of experts with all the high-end facilities under one roof? We are fully satisfied with Aster CMI Hospital and the doctors. We are returning to Sudan now and will come back after six months for follow up,” Kamil said.

Mumbai (PTI): Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar on Sunday termed Argentine football superstar Lionel Messi's visit to Mumbai as a golden moment for the city and the country.
Tendulkar compared the 2011 Cricket World Cup triumph at the same ground with the visit of Messi, along with his Inter Miami team-mates Luis Saurez and Rodrigo de Paul.
"I have spent some incredible moments here. As we call it, Mumbai is a city of dreams. And a number of dreams have seen the finish line here on this very venue. And without your support, we would never have seen those golden moments on this ground in 2011," Tendulkar said referring to India's ODI World Cup triumph in which he played a major role.
"And today, having all three of them here is indeed a golden moment for Mumbai, Mumbaikars and India. The way you have received all three greats of the game has truly been remarkable."

Talking about Messi, he said, "When it comes to Leo, if I have to speak about his game, it wouldn't be the right platform. And you know, what does one talk about him? He has achieved everything. We really admire his dedication, determination, commitment.
"And above all, his humility, the person that he is. And on behalf of Mumbaikars and Indians, I would like to wish him and his family the very best of health and happiness to all of you. Thank you once again for being here and encouraging youngsters."
Tendulkar also hoped that "India also reaches the height that we all aspire to (in football)."
Tendulkar presented a No.10 jersey signed by him to Messi. The Argentine World Cup-winning captain reciprocated with a football.
Messi arrived in Mumbai around noon under "World Cup level" security measures, marking the second day of his four-city 'GOAT India Tour 2025'.
He will wind up his visit on Monday in New Delhi where he will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Messi had arrived in India in the wee hours of Saturday, but the opening leg of the tour in Kolkata quickly descended into chaos later in the day due to poor crowd management and security lapses.
However, his evening programme in the Hyderabad leg stood in stark contrast to the mayhem in Kolkata, proceeding smoothly and concluding on a positive note.
