Bengaluru, May 24: The United Forum Of Banks Union has called for all India bank strike on May 30 and 31 demanding revision of salaries of bank officials and employees.
Speaking to reporters at the Press Club here on Thursday, union leader Srinivas said that despite several rounds of discussions with the United Front of Banks Union, the Indian Bank Association has failed to revise the salaries. Protesting this lethargic attitude, the Union has called for the all India strike. More than 70 per cent profit of the banks in the last ten years has gone for compensating the Non Performing Assets (NPA). Neither the bank officials nor the employees are responsible for such a development. So, it is not fair to deny the revision of the pay scale, he said.
In the last five years, the banking transaction has increased many folds. But when compared to the percentage in total expenditure, the employees’ salary has come down from 13.72 per cent to 10.81 per cent. In spite of the high inflation, the government has been cutting the salaries of bank officials and employees which is not fair. Against this stand, the union has called for two day bank strike, he said.
