Bengaluru: National president of Popular Front of India E Abubacker has questioned the BJP led NDA government's decision of banning the Jamaat-e-Islami in Jammu and Kashmir for five years.
"Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir has a strong presence in the Valley for decades and enjoys popular support through their socio-political and educational activism. The movement has not involved in any violent acts against the country and the charges levelled in the notification of the Union Home Ministry are vague. This is a denial of political freedom. Shrinkage of democratic spaces in this way pushes peace-loving people to extremism. Banning such an organization is not the proper way to deal with political differences, in a democratic country," Abubacker said in a release.
"If there is any evidence against the Jamat of involving in any unlawful or anti-national activity, they can be prosecuted as per the law. The central government must review its decision and restore the freedom for political activism in the state," he urged.
