Belagavi: An accused, who had been taken into custody by the police for questioning in a case, reportedly died in police custody.
The deceased accused has been identified as Basanagowda Eeranagowda Patil (45), a resident of Baagewaadi village in Kukkeri taluk of the district, it is learned.
On Friday, the police arrested Patil and brought him to the police station regarding a marijuana case. However, the Belagavi rural police have said that he had passed away due to ill health.
Recommendation for CID Investigation:
“When the accused was subjected to questioning, he experienced some health complications. Although he was immediately transported to BEEMS hospital, the treatments proved to be ineffective and he passed away. For now, recommendations have been made to initiate a CID investigation into this case,” Ravindra Gadaadi, DCP, has stated.

Mangaluru: Two girl students drowned while bathing near the Kolyadakatta dam area of the Gundya river on Friday evening here in the Kadaba Taluk of the district.
The deceased have been identified as Arpita (15) and Sunita (21), both residents of Vimalagiri in Kutrupadi village.
According to reports, five girl students had visited the river along with their friends as it was a holiday. While bathing in the river, the two students reportedly entered a deeper portion of the water without realising the depth and began drowning.
Those accompanying them tried to rescue the duo, but were unsuccessful, leading to the tragedy.
After receiving information about the incident, Kadaba Police Station personnel visited the spot and conducted an inspection. The bodies were later recovered with the help of local residents.
