Bengaluru: Nagashree PR, a survivor of the Rameshwaram Cafe blast on March 1, has regained 80% of the vision in her right eye after months of medical intervention, including corneal transplantation and retinal surgery.
The 25-year-old accountant lost her vision due to severe injuries to her cornea. Initially, she could only perceive objects as shadows or blurred images. Despite the slim chances of fully regaining her sight, Nagashree remained hopeful, particularly for her daughter Shreevalli, whom she longed to see again.
Admitted to Nethradhama Super Specialty Eye Hospital four days after an initial repair surgery at another hospital, Nagashree underwent three additional surgeries, including a corneal graft. Dr. Sri Ganesh, chairman and MD of Nethradhama, described her injuries as severe, with a completely torn cornea, damaged lens, and a trapped pupil, all of which posed high risks of infection.
Nagashree's vision was significantly restored following a secondary intraocular lens implant, which involved a specialized fixation technique, along with corneal graft and retina correction.
