Bengaluru: A college student was brutally murdered near the railway tracks behind Mantri Mall in Malleswaram on Thursday.
The victim has been identified as Yamini Priya (20), a B. Pharma student. According to police sources, Vignesh, who is suspected to have been in love with her, allegedly killed her after she rejected his proposal.
Police from Sheshadripuram Police Station have registered a case and begun an investigation.
Reports indicate that Yamini left home around 7 a.m. to attend college and was returning home in the afternoon when the accused followed her on a two-wheeler. Near the railway tracks, he allegedly slit her throat and fled the scene. Due to severe bleeding, Yamini died on the spot.
Police officials visited the location and conducted an inspection. Vignesh has been identified as the prime suspect, and efforts are underway to trace him.

Kasaragod: Security was stepped up at the Kasaragod District Collector’s office after an email warning of a bomb threat was received on Friday evening.
Officials said the message prompted an immediate response from the police, who alerted senior officers and rushed security teams to the spot. The bomb disposal squad and dog squad were also pressed into service.
A detailed search was carried out inside the Collector’s office and in the surrounding premises. Police later confirmed that no explosives or suspicious items were found during the operation.
Preliminary investigation showed that the threat email originated from Ukraine. Police have begun efforts to trace the sender and verify the source of the message.
