Bengaluru: A 26-year-old woman, Preethi Singh, tragically passed away on October 2, after sustaining severe injuries from an assault by her husband, Chottelal Singh, at their residence in Chokkasandra on September 24.

Preethi and Chottelal, originally from Madhya Pradesh, both worked at a private company in Bengaluru. Chottelal was employed as a helper at the workplace, as reported by Deccan Herald on Tuesday.

According to the police, Chottelal had a history of subjecting Preethi to both mental and physical abuse. On the day of the incident, an argument erupted when Preethi returned home for lunch, which quickly escalated into a violent confrontation. Chottelal allegedly beat her on the head and body with a rolling pin.

The truth came to light when the couple's two children confided in Preethi's employer about the assault. The employer then took action by filing a formal complaint with the Peenya police, the report added.

Chottelal was arrested on September 25 and initially charged with assault. However, after Preethi passed away following several days in a coma, the charge was subsequently upgraded to murder.
