Bengaluru: Bengaluru’s Namma Metro Yellow Line could be extended to Attibele in the coming years. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar told the Karnataka Assembly on Tuesday that the government is looking into the proposal and has already taken initial steps.
Shivakumar, who also handles Bengaluru’s urban development, was replying to a request from Congress MLA B Shivanna during Question Hour. At present, the Yellow Line runs from RV Road to Bommanahalli. Shivanna urged the government to extend the metro further south to Attibele to meet the needs of people in that area.
Shivakumar said the state has asked RV Associates, a Hyderabad-based firm, to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the extension. He added that a new stadium with a capacity of 90,000 seats is planned near Attibele by the Karnataka Housing Board, making metro connectivity more important.
“We need to extend the metro another 11 to 12 km to link Jigani. It has potential, and we will take the necessary steps,” Shivakumar said.
The extension, if approved, would improve transport for Bengaluru’s fast-growing southern suburbs. The Yellow Line itself was opened on August 10 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and has already seen high passenger usage.
