Bengaluru: A man was fined Rs 1,000 by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) marshals after a garbage bag left outside his house was traced back to him using a parcel addressed to his girlfriend.

According to a Reddit post, the man had left the bag outside on the morning of his flight, as his roommate was away and the dry waste collection was scheduled only twice a week. The bag contained a parcel cover with his girlfriend’s name and his address, which helped the marshals identify the source.

Early the next morning, BBMP marshals arrived at his residence and informed his roommate that garbage had been dumped on the road. They asked for a fine of Rs 1,000, which the roommate paid immediately. The marshals reportedly even mentioned the girlfriend’s name while issuing the warning.

The incident has drawn mixed reactions online. While some social media users praised the BBMP for holding offenders accountable, others felt the fine was too harsh since the trash was left in a bag and not scattered. Several users pointed out that such cases highlight the need for citizens to take responsibility for waste management, while a few jokingly remarked about the marshals’ detective skills in tracking the offender.
