A Bengaluru resident has recounted a distressing encounter during the recent heavy rains, stating that he has never witnessed such severe weather in his five years living in the city. In an anonymous post on the social media platform Grapevine, he detailed the chaos caused by the relentless downpour.

In his lengthy account, the man described his experience as he left home amidst heavy rainfall. “The rain has been relentless since morning. As I left home, it was heavy but manageable. However, when I reached the Sony signal, it intensified, and the roads became nearly impassable, with traffic at a standstill,” he wrote.

He recalled a particularly frightening moment when an electric wire fell nearby, sparking dangerously close to him. “The worst part is that my scooter stalled about 80 feet away. After I parked it, I saw an electric cable fall to the ground and start sparking just 10 meters from me. I got scared and started pushing my scooter to a friend’s nearby place. Once I reached there, I ordered an Ola auto,” he added.

His challenges didn’t end there; he faced an argument with the auto driver, who unexpectedly hiked the fare. “The ride cost me ₹500 for a 6 km trip, and the driver raised the price when he arrived, threatening to cancel the ride if I didn’t pay the increased fare. I am shaking while writing this post,” he stated.

The man’s post quickly gained traction, resonating with many who expressed their concerns about the city’s infrastructure and the mobility problems exacerbated by the rains.

ISLAMABAD: At least two more cases of poliovirus were reported in Pakistan, taking the number of infections to 52 so far this year, a report said on Friday.

“The Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at the National Institute of Health has confirmed the detection of two more wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1) cases in Pakistan," an official statement said.

The fresh infections — a boy and a girl — were reported from the Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.

“Genetic sequencing of the samples collected from the children is underway," the statement read. Dera Ismail Khan, one of the seven polio-endemic districts of southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, has reported five polio cases so far this year.

Of the 52 cases in the country this year, 24 are from Balochistan, 13 from Sindh, 13 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and one each from Punjab and Islamabad.

There is no cure for polio. Only multiple doses of the oral polio vaccine and completion of the routine vaccination schedule for all children under the age of five can keep them protected.
