Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Traffic Police launched a major crackdown on drunk driving on Friday, booking 779 motorists during a special enforcement drive. The operation involved the inspection of 34,676 vehicles across the city, with the police department announcing plans to intensify these efforts every week from Thursday to Sunday.
M.N. Anucheth, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), has directed sub-inspectors at all traffic police stations to implement strict measures against traffic violations. To ensure transparency, all cases will now be recorded at junctions equipped with CCTV cameras. Additionally, female personnel will be present during the registration of these cases.
This special drive comes in the wake of recent incidents raising concerns about traffic safety. On August 17, a woman, who was reportedly the victim of an attempted rape, was booked for negligent driving after her car collided with two autorickshaws near Mangala Junction. In another incident on August 19, a pub bouncer in Bengaluru was arrested for a road rage incident where he allegedly smashed a car's windshield while drunk, in front of the victim's wife and child.
