Bidar: A 62-year-old man and 45 goats were burnt alive after a fire broke out in a barn in Boral village on Tuesday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Shankar Methre, a resident of the village, who reared goats in a shed located on the outskirts. As part of his routine, he had brought the goats back from grazing and kept them inside the shed, where he also stayed overnight.
The fire reportedly broke out around 7 pm, spreading through the entire shed. Shankar Methre and the goats were trapped inside and could not escape.
Preliminary suspicion suggests that the fire may have been caused by a short circuit, though the exact cause is yet to be confirmed.
Police have registered a case at Aurad police station, and further investigation is underway.

Bengaluru (PTI): Karnataka government on Wednesday launched an awareness campaign for Census 2027 Self Enumeration, urging citizens to complete their details online and cooperate fully with enumerators during the upcoming house listing operations.
The Self Enumeration process will be open from April 1 to April 15, 2026, enabling residents to submit their Census details through the official portal, a statement issued by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's Office said.
The campaign highlights a simple digital process, including login through mobile number and OTP, selecting a location, marking the house on the map, filling in household details, and generating a Self Enumeration reference ID.
Alongside the announcement, the CMO released an animation video featuring two characters, Pragati and Vikas, depicted as Census enumerators, who appeal to citizens to provide information willingly and accurately.

In the video, the characters say, "We are Pragati and Vikas, and we stand for Progress and Development," while urging people to share information wholeheartedly, whatever is asked for.
"The information you provide to me will become the foundation for the country's development," the animation characters say in the video.
They also say that during the Census, when Pragati and Vikas knock on their doors, they welcome them warmly and share accurate information about themselves and their household openly.
The video concludes with the statement, "These statistics will form the basis for future planning. Only when every individual cooperates does the country move forward. Our Census, our development".
"Keep your SE ID safe and share it with the Enumerator during their visit," it said.
Field verification by enumerators is scheduled between April 16 and May 15, 2026, during which officials will visit households to validate submitted data or collect information where self-enumeration has not been completed.
Emphasising data safety, the CMO assured that the process is "100 per cent confidential and secure," and called upon the public to participate responsibly.
"Complete your self-enumeration. Be a responsible citizen," the message added.
