Hyderabad: Concerns over food safety have intensified in Telangana following the tragic death of a 19-year-old woman, Phool Kali Baiga, allegedly due to food poisoning after dining at the Grill 9 restaurant in Nirmal. Employed at Saint Thomas School in Pochera, Phool had visited the restaurant with colleagues on November 2. After the meal, all six individuals reportedly experienced severe symptoms of food poisoning, including stomach pain and vomiting.

Seeking medical assistance on November 3 at Boath’s Community Health Centre, they were diagnosed with food poisoning. While her colleagues recovered, Phool’s condition deteriorated over the following days, leading to her passing on November 5. The school’s principal has filed a complaint, accusing the restaurant of serving unsafe food. Boath police registered a zero FIR, and further investigations are underway.

Reports suggest that 13 other patrons experienced similar symptoms, raising questions about food safety protocols and regular inspections in the area. Concerns have been amplified as an inspection last month found stale food at multiple eateries in Nirmal, with few follow-up actions reported.
