Bidar: A lecturer, who was deceived after she invested her money online, allegedly committed suicide by jumping into a well in Islampur village of Basavakalyana taluk, Bidar district.
Arathi Kanate, 28, who committed suicide, was a lecturer at a local college, according to sources.
She made an acquaintance online, who got her to invest her money, after convincing her to take his offer. Believing his offer to be true and with an intention to double up her money, Kanate reportedly invested up to Rs 2.5 lakh of her money. The man later convinced her that, if she submitted an additional Rs 82,000, he would ensure that she also got a job, along with returns for the investment.
Having invested such huge sums of money without informing her family and having lost it all, the lecturer committed suicide, the police have said.
She also wrote about the online acquaintance in her death note, they added.
A case has been registered at the Basavakalyana Police Station.

Mangaluru: Two girl students drowned while bathing near the Kolyadakatta dam area of the Gundya river on Friday evening here in the Kadaba Taluk of the district.
The deceased have been identified as Arpita (15) and Sunita (21), both residents of Vimalagiri in Kutrupadi village.
According to reports, five girl students had visited the river along with their friends as it was a holiday. While bathing in the river, the two students reportedly entered a deeper portion of the water without realising the depth and began drowning.
Those accompanying them tried to rescue the duo, but were unsuccessful, leading to the tragedy.
After receiving information about the incident, Kadaba Police Station personnel visited the spot and conducted an inspection. The bodies were later recovered with the help of local residents.
