BJP candidates for 5 LS seats in Karnataka will be finalised on March 22: Ex-CM Yediyurappa
Bengaluru: (PTI): Former Chief Minister and senior BJP leader B S Yediyurappa said on Wednesday the list of candidates for the remaining five Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka would be finalised on March 22.
The BJP last week announced its first list of 20 nominees for the coming elections in Karnataka, which has a total of 28 constituencies.
Its alliance partner JD(S) has already announced that it would contest in three seats -- Hassan, Mandya and Kolar -- though there is no official announcement by the BJP to that effect.
According to some reports, the BJP is reluctant to cede Kolar seat to the JD(S). S Muniswamy is the incumbent Kolar BJP MP.
"Yesterday we had a detailed discussion on the remaining five seats with the Union Home Minister (Amit Shah) and BJP national president J P Nadda. The final decision will be announced on March 22 after a discussion with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Since it is an alliance between BJP and the JD(S), this time it will be possible to win all the 28 seats," Yediyurappa told reporters in the national capital.
BJP swept the 2019 general elections bagging 25 seats, while an independent backed by the party also won. The Congress and JD(S) who fought the elections together back then secured one seat each.
On JD(S) reportedly unhappy over the issue of seat-sharing, Yediyurappa said: "All that I would like to say is all the JD(S) leaders including former Prime Minister and party patriarch H D Deve Gowda and former Chief Minister and his son H D Kumaraswamy will be with us. Once they agree to the decision that our party high command will take, all things will be set right."
"We will try to give them those seats, which they are expecting," added Yediyurappa, a member of the BJP's Parliamentary Board.

Statewide ban on IV Ringer Lactate usage: Dinesh Gundu Rao
Bengaluru: In response to the deaths of postnatal women at Ballari District Hospital, the Karnataka government has temporarily suspended the use of IV Ringer Lactate solution across the state as a precautionary measure, Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao announced on Saturday.
Speaking to the media in Bengaluru, the minister explained that doubts about the quality of the IV solution had arisen, prompting the decision. He clarified that Ringer Lactate, along with glucose solutions, has been routinely used in hospitals for years. However, out of the 192 batches supplied by the Karnataka State Drugs Logistics and Warehousing Society, concerns were raised regarding two specific batches.
"In light of these concerns, we stopped the use of all 192 batches as a precaution. Following this, the supplying company obtained a High Court order for testing, and the Central Drugs Laboratory (CDL) conducted an analysis. The CDL report confirmed the usability of the solution, allowing the state to form a technical committee to review and permit the use of certain batches that met quality standards. Despite this, doubts have surfaced specifically at Ballari District Hospital," the minister stated.
To address these concerns, the batches supplied to Ballari Hospital have been sent for anaerobic testing to determine whether the IV solution contributed to the deaths. The test results are expected within a week, after which a final decision on the use of IV Ringer Lactate will be made.
"Until then, we have issued directives to hospitals statewide to suspend the use of IV Ringer Lactate. Every life is important to us, and precautionary measures are essential when suspicions arise," Gundu Rao emphasised.
