Bengaluru: In a significant disciplinary action, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expelled senior Karnataka legislators Shivaram Hebbar and S.T. Somashekhar from the party for a period of six years, citing repeated violations of party discipline and anti-party activities.
The BJP's central disciplinary committee took the decision after finding the responses submitted by the two MLAs to a showcause notice issued on March 25 unsatisfactory. The committee noted that both leaders had consistently breached party discipline, prompting the expulsion.
Shivaram Hebbar represents Yellapur in Uttara Kannada district, while S.T. Somashekhar is the MLA from Yeshwanthpur in Bengaluru. Their expulsion was confirmed by BJP Karnataka President B.Y. Vijayendra, who informed the media that the action was taken due to their involvement in activities contrary to the party’s interests.
