Chennai (PTI): Condemning the hike in price of commercial LPG cylinders, MDMK General Secretary Vaiko on Saturday urged the Union government for immediate rollback of the Centre's move.
MDMK is an ally of the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu.
"I strongly condemn the BJP government for increasing the price of cooking gas for commercial use by almost Rs 1000 per cylinder in a single go, citing the rise in crude oil prices in the international market due to the US-Iran war", Vaiko said in a statement.
Pointing out that the price of a 19 kg cooking gas cylinder was increased by Rs 993 and the selling price has been fixed at Rs 3,239, the MDMK leader claimed that restaurants have been severely affected by the disruption in the supply of cooking gas for the past two months, and the prices of food items have also risen.
"In this situation, the increase in the price of cooking gas for commercial use will severely affect the public," he said, adding, "the union government should immediately reverse this price hike".
