B'luru: Security beefed up in Court premises as lawyers hit street demanding protection law for them
Bengaluru: Lawyers in Bengaluru hit the streets on Monday demanding a law ensuring the safety and protection of lawyers in the state.
Hundreds of lawyers thronged towards City Civil Court on Monday to register their protest before the police intercepted and stopped them.
The police used barricades near KR Circle amidst tight security to stop the lawyers from reaching the court premises.
Security was soon beefed up with three DSPs, Additional Commissioner, KSP, and more than 500 police personnel stationed in the area to control the situation.
The lawyers demanded that an Advocates Protection Act be implemented in the state. They also added that there was a need for such a law just like doctors and medical professionals are protected by law.
The protesters also opined that the cases of attacks and harassment of advocates in the state were on the rise and that it called for a stricter law in this regard to be regulated by the government.

Indian crew killed in 'unfortunate' maritime incident: Indian mission in Dubai
Dubai (PTI): An Indian crew member was killed in an "unfortunate" maritime incident, the Indian mission said on Friday, extending assistance.
The Indian Consulate in Dubai did not give much information about the incident but said it was "saddened to learn of the unfortunate incident at Sea that caused the tragic death of an Indian crew of a ship".
In a post on X, the Consulate said it was in touch with the ship's owner and is ascertaining further details.
"The Consulate will render all possible assistance in this matter on priority. Our deepest condolences," it said.
