Bengaluru (PTI): A 10-year-old boy died and 12 persons were injured in a cylinder blast here on Friday, police said.

The incident happened at Chinnayanpalya of Wilson Garden, Central Bengaluru, a tightly packed predominantly residential neighbourhood where houses abut each other.

Adu Godi Police said the injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital. "Rescue work is still going on," an official said.

According to Fire Department sources, the cylinder blast resulted in the collapse of 8-10 houses. A cylinder leak is suspected to have caused the explosion. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah visited the spot.

Speaking to reporters, City Police Commissioner, Seemanth Kumar Singh said the house in which the blast occurred, was being rented by a three-member family.

"The man works as a labourer and had left for work early in the morning as usual. The mother and the child at home were injured. But the boy who died was in a neighbouring house," said Kumar.

He said the police control room received the call around 8.30am.

"We immediately informed the Bomb Disposal Squad, Anti-Terrorism Squad, State Disaster Response Force, Fire Brigade as well as the local police," Singh added.

According to him, three to four houses were fully damaged and about six to seven were partially damaged. Glass windows and doors of some houses in the area also suffered damage, he added.

"We are clearing the houses that are damaged, investigation is on. It's too early to say what exactly caused the blast," said Kumar.

Chennai (PTI): Actor-politician Vijay on Monday claimed that the political atmosphere in Tamil Nadu is charged up due to TVK’s entry and urged his party cadres to strive for a victory in the upcoming Assembly election to Tamil Nadu and gain political recognition.

He said with the overwhelming support of the people, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam members should fight the electoral battle with determination and unity to "achieve the democratic goal of seizing the reins of governance."

Vijay launched the TVK on February 2, 2024.

In a post on 'X', Vijay said, "The joyful third year of TVK begins today. Having completed two years naturally and beyond the norm, our political journey continues."

He claimed the TVK was an "immeasurable deep sea" which ignored distractions and never lost its balance in its political journey. The party was the "victorious battle cry of power politics for the common people," Vijay claimed.

The 2026 Assembly election, he said, carried a new environment that had never seen before.

"Everyone says that the only reason for this is our political beginning. Therefore, in this situation, let us make the field our own, and with clear and skillful strategy, move towards political recognition through electoral victory," the actor said.

"With the overwhelming support of all the people, let us fight with determination and unity, and firmly achieve the democratic goal of seizing the throne," Vijay further said.
