Caste Based Boycott Justification: Complaint filed against anchor Ajith Hanumakkanavar, Pejawar Shri
Bengaluru: On January 12, a Dalit organisation filed a complaint against Vishwaprasanna Theertha Swamiji of Pejawara Mutt and Ajith Hanumakkanavar, anchor of Suvarna News TV, for making derogatory statements in support of caste-based boycott.
This complaint is regarding a programme aired on December 27, 2023 with Pejawar Shri on the 'News Hour' TV program titled "Are Dalits allowed to worship in Ayodhya?" In this program, a discussion was arranged on whether Dalits will be allowed to worship in Ayodhya's Ram Mandir.
The complaint is filed at a time when the Prana pratishta is scheduled on January 22nd at the Ayodhya Ram Mandir. Pejawar Shri is also one of the trustees of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Theertha Kshetra Trust.
During the debate, Dr. Vishwa Prasanna Tirtha Swamiji of Pejavar Math and the anchor Ajith Hanumakkanavar used discriminatory and derogatory words against Dalits. It is alleged in the complaint filed by an organisation named Dr. B. R Ambedkar Dandu that “Both Pejavara Shri and the TV anchor have justified untouchability by saying that religious rules must be followed in religious places and that Dalits are not allowed to worship in temples"
Commenting on this, Dr. BR Ambedkar Dandu organisation Legal Adviser Adarsh R. Iyer said that the High Ground police station in Bengaluru has issued only an acknowledgment letter in response to the complaint and no preliminary information report has been filed so far.

Three Bangkok flyers arrested with Rs 4.53 crore hydroponic ganja at BLR airport
Bengaluru (PTI): Three passengers who arrived from Bangkok at the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru on Wednesday were arrested with hydroponic ganja valued at Rs 4.53 crore, officials said.
The accused, whose identities have not been disclosed, were arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, they said.
In a post on X, Bengaluru Customs said it intercepted three passengers arriving from Bangkok and seized 12.96 kg of hydroponic ganja, valued at Rs 4.53 crore, concealed in their check-in baggage.
Further investigation is underway.
