Chamarajanagar, October 27: A liquor addict crushed his father to death for not giving him money to drink at Thammadahalli village in the district on Friday night.
The deceased has been identified as tender coconut vendor Mahadeva Nayak (65) of Thammadahalli . Chamarajnagar rural police registered a case.
His son Swamy has been demanding money for consuming liquor every day. On Friday night also, he asked money from his father. When his father denied amount, he became angry and attacked his father. As he attacked his father with a stone, Mahadeva Nayak sustained head injury and died on the spot, it is said.
Swamy’s wife Mamatha gave a statement to the police that it was a common scene for her at home. On Friday night, he killed his father in an inebriated condition, sources said.
However, the accused also gave a statement that he did not kill his father. There was a quarrel at home. Both of them have sustained injuries and he has done anything wrong, he added.
Meanwhile, Mahadeva Nayak’s daughter Pushpa said that her brother used to quarrel with her father every day. On Friday night also, he developed a quarrel with her father and in a wrath, her brother killed her father. He should be punished, she said.
When the accused tried to attack family members while shifting the body to the district hospital, public thrashed him black and blue. Chamarajnagar rural police arrested Swamy and sent him to police custody.

The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Pushparaj, a distinguished academic from SDM Law College, Mangalore, who highlighted the significance of constitutional principles in shaping a progressive and inclusive society.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Head of Mechanical Engineering Department Dr. Vasantha Kumar, followed by an inaugural address by Dr. S I Manjur Basha, Principal of BIT.
The ceremony featured notable activities, including the watering of a plant to symbolize growth and sustainability, the oath taking of constitution's Preamble led by Dr. Mohamed Kafeel Delvi.
The Chief Guest, Prof. Pushparaj, was introduced by Dr. Imran Mokashi,Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Sandeep Nambiar S, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering.
