Chikkaballapur independent MLA Sharath Bachegowda to join Congress
Bengaluru: Chikkaballapur Lok Sabha MP BN Bachegowda’s son Sharath Kumar Bachegowda, an independent MLA from Hoskote assembly constituency will join Congress party on February 22.
Bachegowda is expected to join the party in the presence of KPCC President DK Shivakumar and former CM Siddaramaiah.
Bachegowda has already held a round of talks with Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah on his decision to join the party. It is learned that the Congress High Command has already given green signal for his inclusion.
Bachegowda, fighting assembly elections as an independent candidate, had defeated BJP's MTB Nagaraj, who had fled Congress.
Bachegowda will join the national party Congress to fight his family's political rival MTB Nagaraj.
Bachegowda was a hopeful BJP candidate for the by-election, however, Chief Minister Yeddyurappa gave the ticket to MTB Nagaraj. Frustrated by this, Bachhegowda resigned from the BJP and campaigned as independent candidate and won.
Despite losing the by-election, MTB Nagaraj was elected as an MLC, and was given Cabinet berth by Yeddyurappa. Bachegowda has chosen Congress party to fight his rival MTB Nagaraj on political grounds.

India secure morale-boosting draw after hundreds by Gill, Jadeja and Washington
Manchester, Jul 27 (PTI): Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar and Shubman Gill struck fine hundreds as India secured a morale-boosting draw in the 4th Test here on Sunday.
The stalemate was achieved after Gill (103), Rahul (90), Jadeja (107 not out), and Washington (101 not out) fired with the bat on a fifth day pitch after India started their second innings 311 runs in arrears.
England lead the series 2-1 heading into the fifth and final Test.
For skipper Gill, this was his fourth century of the ongoing rubber as he became the first Asian batter to cross 700 runs in a Test series in England.
Earlier in the day, opener Rahul was dismissed by Ben Stokes for a doughty 90, ending a 188-run partnership for the third wicket with Gill.
Resuming the day on 174 for two and with a deficit of 137 runs, overnight batter Gill completed his hundred before falling to Jofra Archer just before lunch at Old Trafford.
