Chikkamagaluru: A 28-year-old man in Hakkimakki village near Arenooru of the taluk allegedly killed his mother while in a drunken state and later burnt her body late Wednesday night.

Aldoor Police have registered a case and are investigating the matter. They have arrested the man, Pavan, who was reportedly found sleeping a short distance away from the body of his mother Bhavani (52), after setting it on fire.

Aldoor Inspector and the Sub-inspector are learned to have visited the house and held an inspection.

Bhavani’s body, except her limbs, were found burnt. The police team and the locals, who arrived at the house late Wednesday night, moved the body to a hospital in Chikkamagaluru, where it has been taken for a post-mortem examination.

Pavan, who is a bachelor and worked as a manual labourer, was living with his parents on a hillock with no houses nearby. Both Pavan and his father are learned be alcoholics. His father has filed a complaint about the misdeeds of Pavan with Aldoor Police.

Beed (PTI): A woman was robbed of gold jewellery worth Rs 3.35 lakh at Kaij bus station in Beed district, a police official said on Monday.

The incident took place on Sunday evening when Ashwini Gholve, a resident of Teacher Colony, was boarding a bus for Nashik, he added.

"An unidentified woman opened the victim's handbag and fled with gold jewellery worth Rs 3.35 lakh that was a kept in a box. The victim was on her way to attend her brother's wedding. The stolen items include a one 'tola' gold ring, a gold mangalsutra, a ring and a pair of earrings weighing 5 gram each," he said.

"The suspect is seen in footage from one of the CCTV cameras in the vicinity. She was with a minor girl. Further probe into the case is underway," the Kaij police station official added.
