Chikkamagaluru: In a tragic incident in Hedadalu village near Alduru, Chikkamagaluru, a 45-year-old woman named Veena, employed as an agricultural laborer, lost her life after being attacked by a wild elephant on Wednesday morning.
Veena was en route to her work in the fields in Hedadalu when the aggressive elephant trampled her, causing severe injuries that led to her immediate demise.
This incident marks the second fatal attack by wild elephants in the last two months in Chikkamagaluru district, highlighting the growing menace posed by these animals. Locals have expressed concern, fear, and anger over the situation, especially as a group of seven wild elephants has been spotted in the forests bordering Alduru recently.
Residents have called on Forest Department officials to take immediate action to drive away the elephants from the vicinity of their village.
Responding to the concerns, Forest Department officials in Alduru visited the village and conducted an inspection to assess the situation.

Lucknow (PTI): Adverse weather forced an IndiGo Kolkata-Patna flight to make an emergency landing at Lucknow airport on Friday, airport sources said.
According to airport officials, weather conditions in Patna deteriorated suddenly on Friday afternoon, affecting flight operations.
IndiGo flight 6E 6917 from Kolkata, which was scheduled to land in Patna at 3.50 pm, could not land due to bad weather and kept circling in the air after failing to get clearance from air traffic control, they said.
The flight was later diverted to Lucknow and landed safely at the Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport at around 5.15 pm. There were 180 passengers and six crew members on board, officials said.
The aircraft was later allowed to depart for Patna after weather conditions improved.
