Kalaburagi: The ceiling of a government higher primary school in Malkapalli of Sedam taluk collapsed on Friday afternoon when the students were having lunch and three 13-year-old students were injured in the incident.
The injured children, Akshatha, Kaveri and Srinivas, who are Class 8 students in the school, were rushed to the Primary Health Centre in Kolakunda village nearby and are being treated there.
The school has approximately 300 children studying from Class 1 to 8 in four classrooms.
Gram Panchayat member Navadareddy Malkapalli has alleged that the government authorities have been informed repeatedly that the ceiling of the old school in Malkapalli was weak and would possibly collapse soon, but the officers continued to ignore the villagers’ requests.
Block Education Officer Maruti Huzurati visited the school and, after inspecting the classrooms, instructed the teachers not to hold classes there. He also directed the head teacher of the school to provide a safer place to the staff members to hold classes.
