Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Wednesday announced a compensation of Rs. 5 lakh to the families of people killed in floods in the state, while also ordering deployment of more security forces in the flood-hit areas of the state.
"Homeless people are being provided shelter, food, clothing and medicine. Additional forces and helicopters have been requested. A total of six people have been killed in the floods so far, we will provide compensation of Rs. Five lakh to their families" Yediyurappa told reporters.
Yediyurappa further announced compensation of Rs. 50 lakh to the family of Police Sub-Inspector who died while managing traffic in heavy rain, one of his family member will also be given a government job.
"22682 people have been moved to safe locations with the help of army and voluntary groups. Eight army battallion, Five NDRF teams and 2 SDRF teams have been additionally deployed for the security of people" CM assured.
Yediyurappa further stated that he will personally monitor all the flood-hit areas and will meet DCs of the Districts to discuss solutions to the inconveniences caused to the people of the state due to floods.

Srinagar (PTI): Property worth Rs 1 crore belonging to a notorious drug peddler was on Saturday attached in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar, police said.
A double-storey house on eight marlas of land situated at Wantpora Eidgah, belonging to Basit Bilal Dar, a notorious drug peddler, valued at approximately Rs 1 crore, a police spokesperson said.
He said Dar is involved in two cases registered under various sections of the NDPS Act.
During investigation, it was established that the accused had acquired the said property through illicit proceeds generated from drug trafficking activities, the spokesperson said.
Consequently, the property was attached under the provisions of the NDPS Act. The attachment proceedings were conducted in the presence of the two independent witnesses, strictly in accordance with the prescribed legal procedures, he said.
As per the attachment order, the owner has been restrained from selling, leasing, transferring, altering, or creating any third-party interest in the property till further orders, the spokesperson added.
