Bengaluru: The Congress Party has lodged a police complaint against BJP Karnataka Chief Spokesperson M.G. Mahesh, accusing him of making defamatory and caste-insensitive remarks against Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge in response to the minister’s recent comments on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

The complaint was filed by B.N. Anand, President of the Bengaluru South District Congress Committee, at the High Grounds Police Station. In his statement, Anand alleged that Mahesh had intentionally referred to Kharge as ‘gulaam’ (slave), a remark he said was made in a derogatory manner targeting the minister’s Dalit identity.

Anand further accused Mahesh of spreading false information aimed at defaming Kharge and inciting social hatred, and urged the police to register a case and arrest the BJP spokesperson.

A police official confirmed that the complaint has been transferred to Mysuru Police, as Mahesh had made the alleged remarks during an event in Mysuru.

The remarks come amid an ongoing political row following Minister Priyank Kharge’s letter to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, seeking a ban on RSS activities in government premises and public spaces.
