Bengaluru, May 18: Congress leaders and thousands of party workers took out a Raj Bhavan chalo protest here on Friday alleging that Governor Vajubhai Vala has invited the BJP to form the government which is unconstitutional and against the democratic values.
Senior leaders Mallikarjuna Kharge, Gulam Nabi Azad, former chief minister Siddaramaiah and others along with thousands of party workers took out a protest march from KPCC office on Queen’s Road towards the Raj Bhavan, shouting slogans against the Governor.
Workers arrested
When the agitators tried to lay siege the Raj Bhavan, the police stopped them at Coffee Board office and when they staged protest on the road, they were arrested.
Former minister Ramalinga Reddy said that in democracy, the number of MLAs is important. But, the Governor has thrown all norms to the wind and invited the BJP which does not have majority, which is condemnable, he said.
Both Congress and JDS workers are together. They do not have any differences. BJP leaders would not succeed in hijacking the Lingayat MLAs. Even independent MLAs are also with the Congress. The Supreme Court has given a big blow to all such unconstitutional decisions. Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa should resign from his position to give respect to the values of democracy, he demanded.
