Congressman R.V Deshpande's name proposed as pro tem speaker
Bengaluru, May 17: Legislature secretariat has proposed the name of senior congress leader R.V Deshpande for the post of pro tem speaker. Deshpande is the eight time MLA from Haliyal.
Pro tem speaker has the responsibility to hold meetings until the new speaker is being elected by the new members of the assembly.
As Yeddyurappa led BJP government needs to prove its majority in the assembly election of speaker has gained importance. Though pro tem speaker has no right to hold floor test, since BJP government doesn't have majority, time only will answer how they going to elect their own speaker.

Minor girl kidnapped and raped; main accused and two cafe owners held
Latur (PTI): A minor girl was allegedly kidnapped and raped by an 18-year-old man in Latur, leading to the arrest of the main accused and owners of two cafes where the crime occurred on December 4, police said on Saturday.
Police traced the girl within hours of registering the complaint. The accused, identified as Rihan Gulab Shaikh, was arrested based on the girl's complaint. Two others are owners of two cafes where the crime occurred, police said.
Police registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), POCSO Act, and the Prevention of Atrocities Act, an official said.
