Bengaluru: The Central Crime Branch (CCB) has arrested a couple from Mysuru in connection with a major racket involving the sale of adulterated ghee under the Nandini brand. The couple, identified as Shivakumar and his wife Ramya, were allegedly running a high-tech illegal manufacturing unit in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu.

The arrest follows an earlier operation where the CCB nabbed four individuals, including a distributor of Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) products. According to a report published by The New Indian Express on Thursday, the CCB has frozen Rs 60 lakh in the couple’s bank accounts, suspecting that it could be proceeds from the alleged crime.

Investigations revealed that Shivakumar and Ramya were linked to a larger network involved in producing and selling fake Nandini ghee. They had been manufacturing adulterated ghee and distributing it under the Nandini brand.

In a joint operation between the CCB and KMF’s vigilance wing, the authorities arrested Mahendra, a distributor of KMF products, his son Deepak, and Muniraju, who oversaw the transportation of adulterated ghee from Tamil Nadu. Abhi Arasu, the driver involved in the operation, was also arrested on November 14.

A substantial quantity of goods, including 8,136 litres of adulterated ghee, valued at Rs 1.26 crore, four vehicles, and a large amount of coconut and palm oil were seized. The adulterated ghee was produced by mixing one litre of original ghee with three litres of fake ghee, added the report.

The fake ghee was packaged in sachets and plastic bottles bearing the Nandini logo and supplied to Bengaluru-based KMF distributors. The accused also distributed the adulterated product to wholesale and retail shops, including Nandini outlets across the city.

The joint team raided godowns and shops and seized goods vehicles of Krishna Enterprises at Nanjamba Agrahara, Chamarajpet, owned by one of the accused and his family members.

Melbourne (PTI): Former Australian hockey player Michael Nobbs, who coached the Indian men's team at the 2012 London Olympics, has died after a prolonged illness.

He was 72 years old and is survived by his wife Lee Capes, a former Australian women's international and daughter Kaitlin, who is a current Hockeyroos star.

"Hockey Australia extends its deepest condolences to Michael’s family, friends, former teammates, players and all those whose lives and careers were shaped by his contribution to hockey. He will be remembered as a proud Kookaburra, a respected professional, and a servant of the sport," Hockey Australia said in a statement.

Nobbs represented Australia as a defender, playing across the half-back line and at fullback, and was renowned for his reliability, fitness and professionalism. He earned 76 international caps for Australia between 1979 and 1985, scoring one goal, and was a member of one of the strongest eras in Australian men’s hockey, said Hockey Australia on its website in its tribute.

Nobbs was an integral part of the Australian teams that competed at the 1981 Hockey World Cup in Bombay and the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.

While part of a generation widely regarded as one of Australia’s finest, he consistently held his place through hard work, discipline and trust earned from teammates and coaches, Hockey Australia wrote.

Nobbs took over the coaching of the Indian men's team in 2011 after it had failed to qualify for the Beijing Games in 2008. While India were brilliant in the qualifiers, the team finished last at the London extravaganza which also expedited the Australian coach's sacking.

Apart from India, Nobbs also coached Japan.
