Bengaluru: Karnataka on Friday reported 271 fresh cases of Coronavirus across the state taking the total state tally of infected patients to 6516. The state also recorded seven deaths due to the virus taking the total number of casualties in the state to 79 so far.

The latest health bulletin issued by Health and Family Welfare Department on Friday evening confirmed the state saw 271 new cases between Thursday 5 pm and Friday 5 pm.

In Bengaluru Urban three women aged 61, 65 and 49, and a man aged 52 succumbed to the virus. Kalaburagi also reported two deaths, two men aged 53 and 48 died in the District due to the virus. In Hassan a 60-year-old man also died after being infected by the deadly virus.

Among the Districts that have reported new cases on Friday are Bellary 97, Bengaluru Urban 36, Udupi 22, Kalaburagi 20, Dharwad 19, Dakshina Kannada 17, Bidar 10, Hassan and Mysuru 9 each, Tumkuru 7, Shivamoga 6, Raichur and Uttara Kannada 4 each, Ramanagar and Chitradurga three each, Mandya 2, Kolar and Belagavi one each.

Of the 6516 cases 3,440 patients have recovered from the virus and have been discharged from the hospitals including 464 on a single day on Friday. 79 patients have succumbed to the virus. And the state currently has 2,995 active cases, the bulletin on Friday informed.

Jaipur (PTI): Former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday expressed concern over the reported attacks and disruptions in prayer gatherings of the Christian community in different parts of the country, saying such incidents were "worrying and condemnable".

In a post on X, Gehlot said that while the Prime Minister Narendra Modi was visiting a church and giving a message of peace and harmony, news of attacks on members of the Christian community from various regions reflected a serious contradiction.

"Symbolic gestures would not be enough, and strict legal action was required against those spreading hatred," the senior Congress leader said.

He added that Indian culture has always upheld the spirit of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam", where every citizen has full freedom to practise their faith.

Gehlot urged the Centre and state governments to uphold the rule of law and ensure that no citizen is forced to celebrate their festival under fear.
