Bengaluru: Karnataka on Thursday registered 210 new cases of COVID-19 in the state along with 12 deaths due to the deadly virus in the last 24 hours. Taking the total number of cases to 7,944. The latest health bulletin by Health and Family Welfare Department confirmed.

With this, the state has also neared the 8000-mark of cases of the virus reported in the state. The death toll has climbed to 114, according to the bulletin. Bengaluru Urban reported eight deaths between Wednesday 5 pm and Thursday at 5 pm while Koppal, Bidar, Vijayapura, and Kalaburagi also reported one death each.

Among the district that reported fresh cases on Thursday, were, Kaburagi 48, Dakshina Kannada 23, Ramanagar 21, Bengaluru Urban 17, Yadgiri 8, Mandya 7, Bidar 6, Gadag 5, Hassan, Dharwad and Raichur 4 each, Davangere and Chikkamangaluru 3 each, Vijayapura, Uttara Kannada and Mysuru two each, Bagalkote, Shivmoga, and Koppal reported one each new cases of the virus.

Of the 7,944 cases, 4,983 patients have recovered and have been discharged from the hospitals including 179 on Thursday. 114 have succumbed to the virus so far while the state has 2,843 active cases currently, the bulletin informed.

Jaipur (PTI): Former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday expressed concern over the reported attacks and disruptions in prayer gatherings of the Christian community in different parts of the country, saying such incidents were "worrying and condemnable".

In a post on X, Gehlot said that while the Prime Minister Narendra Modi was visiting a church and giving a message of peace and harmony, news of attacks on members of the Christian community from various regions reflected a serious contradiction.

"Symbolic gestures would not be enough, and strict legal action was required against those spreading hatred," the senior Congress leader said.

He added that Indian culture has always upheld the spirit of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam", where every citizen has full freedom to practise their faith.

Gehlot urged the Centre and state governments to uphold the rule of law and ensure that no citizen is forced to celebrate their festival under fear.
