Davangere: Eastern Zone IGP Ramesh B has said that 30 people have been arrested in connection with the stone-pelting incident here during the Ganesha idol immersion procession on Thursday. He added that an FIR has also been filed for creating ruckus in a residential area, other than during the procession.
The chaotic situation was caused with miscreants pelting stones when the Ganesha procession was passing from Aralimara Circle to Venkateswara Circle on Betur Road in Davangere city.
The senior police officer, who said that the police are on overnight beat in the affected area, added that police security has been provided to mosques on Friday too, after the incident. He confirmed that the situation in the city has been brought back to normal, with businessmen reopening their stores on Friday.
The IGP warned of taking strict legal action on legal grounds if attempts were made to violate the law or give rise to communal riots.

Chikkamagaluru: Four children drowned in a lake in Aralaguppe village after reportedly going to catch ducks, police said.
The deceased have been identified as Mahdia, Arunus, Nayus, and Abdul Rehman. The children were aged between 5 and 14 years. Another child, Armaan (4), escaped unhurt.
Police said the incident occurred at Karanji Lake in Aralaguppe village. Rural police visited the spot and are investigating the case. A case has been registered at the local rural police station.
